Join current and former JLC Presidents, Delane Heldt & Ruth Gallagher Nelson, for a celebration and Champagne toast honoring our Founder's Day. Tickets for the event include light hors d'oeuvres, beer & wine and a champagne toast at 7:00 PM. A cash bar will be available from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
Founder's Day: On November 1, 1911, Lucy McCormick Blair Linn and 11 of her friends met for a luncheon in the ballroom of the Hamilton McCormick Mansion, now the site of Lawry's Restaurant. It was at this luncheon that the Junior League of Chicago was formed. The initial focus was to interest young women in the industrial and social issues of the city, research ways to effectively address those issues and to bring about positive change, and to set an example for others about the importance of civic welfare.
With these words, on June 29, 1912, the Junior League of Chicago's charter was granted and the direction was set for volunteer leadership in Chicago.
